Cherry Blossom Blue Jay Acrylic Painting

Blue Jay birds always seem to have a bad reputation. Perhaps it’s because they are bigger, aggressive, and can mimic other birds. But did you know they are extremely intelligent and are dedicated to their family. While some migrate others remain in their breeding grounds for the rest of the year. They also mate for life! They are very attentive to the females during incubation feeding them and tending to their needs. Blue Jays also live in small family groups and if they do migrate they do so as a family.

And the most interesting fact of all is… they are not blue!!! Yes that’s right… they are not blue! The melanin is brown but scattered throughout the body in varying magnitudes. Then when the light hits the bird it scatters and gives out different shades of blue. 

I love to see a Blue Jay fly across our yard. When their wings are spread open I enjoy the beautiful blue (or not) color they have. I hope this Blue Jay painting with a Cherry Blossom tree made with mixed media has captured the beauty of this amazingly interesting songbird and it fills your home with color and wonderment.
